AbstractNosocomial pneumonia is a large and growing problem in American hospitals. This article reviews the epidemiology, risk factors, microbiology, natural history, and presentation of nosocomial pneumonia. Pathogenesis is also reviewed, and practical measures for prevention are stressed.
