AbstractIn lumbar disc surgery ureteral transection is a rare complication and only nine such cases have been reported so far. They are analyzed and two more cases are described. The complication in the first case was recognized immediately and the patient was treated successfully by end-to-end anastomosis of the ureter. The diagnosis in the second case was delayed and this lead to a septic course and finally required nephrectomy.
