AbstractTracheal intubation was facilitated with an intubating laryngeal mask (ILM) in two patients with difficult airways. Target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol and fentanyl was used for sedation during placement of an ILM. An ILM was inserted smoothly. Spontaneous ventilation and oxygenation were well maintained throughout the induction. Both patients were satisfied with intravenous sedation using TCI for awake instrumentation of their airways.
