AbstractThis article examines the relationship between speech and language impairment and psychiatric disorders in children. Recent research on the prevalence and correlates of speech and language impairment is reviewed. The natural history and classification of speech and language impairment is explored and the implications for clinical practice, theory, and research are discussed.
