AbstractTransvaginal ultrasound was performed in a 35-year-old woman with right iliac fossa discomfort in whom initial transabdominal images revealed no abnormality. A thickened hyperemic appendix with appendicolith was identified; subsequent surgery and pathological examination confirmed appendicitis. Transvaginal ultrasound may be valuable in women with suspected appendicitis when standard views are normal or equivocal.
