AbstractTorsion of the gallbladder is a rare cause of acute surgical abdomen. Less than 300 patients have been reported so far. On the other hand incidence seems to be higher than expected especially in elderly patients. This condition must be suspected in an elderly patient who represents signs and symptoms of toxemia and cholecystitis . Diagnosis is usually established during laparotomy. Torsion occurs at the base of the gallbladder around cystic duct and artery. Treatment is emergent cholecystectomy.
