AbstractAlcohol-related deaths in the UK increased substantially between 1991 and 2004, from 4144 to 8221. Overall rates increased in all parts of the UK. There were, however, large differences in rates between countries and regions. This article presents these differences and also looks at patterns of alcohol-related mortality by deprivation within England and Wales. The article considers changes over time for males and females and for different age groups.
