AbstractIts indications should only be considered in patients with morbid obesity (BMI>40 kg/m2) or severe obesity (BMI>35 kg/m2) with serious associated comorbidity. In general, significant weight loss with marked improvement of the cardiovascular comorbidity is obtained. There are still no studies that show long term survival. It must be stressed that the patients should follow a subsequent and continuous medical monitoring to prevent important secondary metabolic complications.
