AbstractCardiomyopathy due to iron overload represents a frequent life-limiting complication in patients with beta-thalassemia major. We have conducted a study which proved that brain natriuretic peptide plasma levels have high sensitivity and negative predictive value in detecting cardiac hemosiderosis.
