AbstractMetformin is the first-line therapy for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. In certain conditions lactic acidosis (MALA) can occur. Starting with a case report of a 62-year-old woman presenting with abdominal pain, we bring this complication to attention, describing its pathogenesis and its management. This underlines the need for thoughtful use of metformin.
