AbstractGeneralist physicians, specifically general internists and primary care physicians, are often the first to see patients with gout and therefore play a critical role in the diagnosis and management of these patients. The aim of this review is to aid generalist physicians in diagnosing and treating gout. A case report example is presented to highlight some of the problems in diagnosing and treating gout. Practical practice points are also highlighted.
