AbstractA new module of instruction for diagnostic imaging with emphasis on cross-sectional anatomy was developed within the existing course of gross anatomy for freshmen medical students. Two lectures introduced radiation protection, radiology history, and the basic principles of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and radiograph image production. Six radiographic anatomy correlation sessions allowed student-teacher interaction while studying viewbox images in a "hands on" fashion. Relevant exhibits complemented cadaver dissection. Testing established that significant improvement occurred in the students' ability to identify anatomic structures on diagnostic images.
