[Prognosis of breast cancer--20 years experience in radical mastectomy].

AbstractFrom 1958 to 1982, 1,035 patients with breast cancer were treated by operation in our hospital. The follow up rate was 100% and 804 were followed for more than 5 years. Radical mastectomy was performed in 695 of the 804 patients, the rest were treated by simple mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy and extended radical mastectomy. The 5, 10, 15 and 20 year survival rates were 71.8%, 58.2%, 48.8% and 41.8%. According to the UICC TNM classification, the 5, 10, 15 and 20 year survival rates of stage I were 84.5%, 77.0%, 58.3% and 75.0%, of stage II, 72.8%, 57.4%, 53.5% and 58.8%, and of stage III, were 55.3%, 44.7%, 36.5% and 8.0%, respectively.
