AbstractThe concept of AO condylarplate has enabled successful surgical stabilisation for severe condylar and supracondylar fractures in 58% of our patients. We analyzed 113 fractures between 1968 to 1987. Comminuted zones were fixed by special methods. In 42% we preferred reconstruction by AO condylar-buttress-plate and bridging technics. There were clear indications for cancellous bone grafts in 52.6%, for revascularisizing segmental fragments, for supporting medial cortical zones and defect areas. The analysis demonstrated the effectiveness of several operative variants in 80.8%. The results are likely to support current recommendations to the use of special stabilizing methods for difficult situations.
