AbstractMetamizole is primarily used for severe perioperative pain, acute injury and colic, and cancer pain. For other acute/chronic forms of pain and high fever, it should only be used if unresponsive to other agents. Metamizole should not be used for middle and low pain. Oral application should be preferred. A contraindication for metamizole is leukopenia. Clinical signs for agranulocytosis are fever, tonsillitis and aphthous stomatitis.Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart · New York.
