    AbstractThe bar for clinical research in surgical subspecialties has been rising over the past 10 yr. It is now essential that neurosurgeons are familiar with the principles of evidence-based medicine to evaluate and conduct sound clinical research. In this review, we highlight the importance of formulating a good research question, which serves as the foundation for meaningful investigation.
