AbstractThe development of neurosurgery in Chicago has rather unique beginnings. The key contributions by well-known general surgeon demonstrators who worked at Chicago's Cook County Hospital in the late 1800s and early 1900s are highlighted. The formation of neurosurgical academic programs and educational development in Chicago is detailed further and placed in perspective.
