AbstractWe describe the problems encountered during general anaesthesia in a 2-year-old boy who was suffering from an extremely severe form of Niemann-Pick disease. Attention focused on respiratory difficulties and intubation problems. The usefulness of the lateral position and the limits of the Mallampati score in this case are discussed.
