AbstractMuscle edema is commonly encountered in patients following extremity trauma. This article presents an overview of differential considerations in patients presenting with muscle edema, and while focusing on trauma outlines causes on the basis of mechanism, vasogenic, congestive, traumatic, and tumorigenic edema.
