AbstractIn a retrospect study we evaluated the clinical impact of traumatic rib fractures. Our series included 96 patients treated between 1986 and 1988. Haemato- and/or pneumothorax corresponded closely to the number of fractured ribs. There was a highly significant association (p less than 0.001) between the number of fractured ribs and polytrauma. The leading cause of injuries was a traffic accident.
