    AbstractThis article reviews the current state of the knowledge in the management of children and adolescents with sickle cell disease (SCD). A thorough review of the literature concerning physiological issues including the clinical manifestations of SCD as well as current treatment modalities is included. Therapeutic management of health and illness for a child with SCD is discussed in relation to primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Recommendations for nursing practice and research are made.
