Comparative StudyTransversus abdominis plane block for postoperative analgesia after cesarean delivery.
The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is the ultrasound-guided placement of a peripheral nerve block in the abdominal wall for pain control. Our objective was to compare postoperative adjunctive oral narcotic use in women who underwent cesarean delivery and received the TAP block vs. those who received neuraxial narcotics. We hypothesize a decrease in narcotic use in women who received the TAP block. ⋯ The TAP block is associated with decreased oral narcotic usage 24-48 h following cesarean delivery.

Fecal calprotectin levels are increased in infants with necrotizing enterocolitis.
To investigate the value of fecal calprotectin in diagnosis and predicting severity of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. ⋯ Fecal calprotectin increases in infants with NEC and serial measurements may be useful as a noninvasive prognostic marker for progression of disease.

Case ReportsFetal bronchoscopy: its successful use in a case of extralobar pulmonary sequestration.
To report the performance of fetal bronchoscopy in a case of pulmonary sequestration. ⋯ Fetal bronchoscopy is feasible. The procedure may prove useful in the differential diagnosis and in the potential treatment of different fetal lung lesions, as well as aid in the understanding of the role of bronchial obstruction as a common pathophysiologic mechanism for different fetal lung masses. Risks and benefits of fetal bronchoscopy warrant further experience.

Randomized Controlled TrialDoes vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine prior to caesarean delivery reduce the risk of endometritis? A randomized controlled trial.
The purpose of the present study was to determine whether the vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine prior to caesarean delivery decreased the incidence of postpartum endometritis. ⋯ Vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine solution immediately prior to a caesarean delivery reduces the risk of post-operative endometritis. This preemptive measure was only found to be beneficial in women whose membranes had ruptured and those who were in labor prior to caesarean surgery.

Combined fetal fibronectin and cervical length and spontaneous preterm birth in asymptomatic triplet pregnancies.
To estimate the association between fetal fibronectin (fFN), cervical length (CL), and spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB) in asymptomatic women with triplet pregnancies. ⋯ In asymptomatic women with triplet pregnancies, fFN and CL are each significantly associated with SPTB. For the prediction of SPTB, combined fFN and CL testing outperforms either test alone.
