Precision and accuracy of noninvasive hemoglobin measurements during pregnancy.
The NBM-200 is a novel device allowing noninvasive hemoglobin measurement. The system is based on occlusion spectroscopy technology in the red/near-infrared range. At the core of this technology is the production of a new bio-physical signal, resulting from temporarily occluding the blood flow in the measurement site. The measurement is performed using an annular, multi-wavelength probe with pneumatically operated cuffs, with which an over-systolic pressure is produced at the finger base. ⋯ Our study demonstrates a good correlation between reference blood hemoglobin and noninvasive hemoglobin measurements. The NBM-200 can accurately assess hemoglobin levels, in a noninvasive fashion, during pregnancy.

Comparative StudyMode of delivery and neonatal outcome in uncomplicated monochorionic twin pregnancies.
The association between of mode of delivery and perinatal morbidity in monochorionic (MC) twins is not clear. Thus there is no agreement regarding the optimal mode of delivery of MC twins. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of the mode of delivery on neonatal outcome of uncomplicated MC twins in a tertiary center with a strict policy of delivering MC twins by 37 weeks' gestation. ⋯ Delivering MC twin pregnancies by 37 weeks' gestation is associated with similar rate of vaginal deliveries compared with DC twin pregnancies. The neonatal outcome was not affected by the mode of delivery, and therefore vaginal delivery seems safe in MC twins.

Case ReportsFetal bronchoscopy: its successful use in a case of extralobar pulmonary sequestration.
To report the performance of fetal bronchoscopy in a case of pulmonary sequestration. ⋯ Fetal bronchoscopy is feasible. The procedure may prove useful in the differential diagnosis and in the potential treatment of different fetal lung lesions, as well as aid in the understanding of the role of bronchial obstruction as a common pathophysiologic mechanism for different fetal lung masses. Risks and benefits of fetal bronchoscopy warrant further experience.

Comparative StudyTransversus abdominis plane block for postoperative analgesia after cesarean delivery.
The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is the ultrasound-guided placement of a peripheral nerve block in the abdominal wall for pain control. Our objective was to compare postoperative adjunctive oral narcotic use in women who underwent cesarean delivery and received the TAP block vs. those who received neuraxial narcotics. We hypothesize a decrease in narcotic use in women who received the TAP block. ⋯ The TAP block is associated with decreased oral narcotic usage 24-48 h following cesarean delivery.

Fecal calprotectin levels are increased in infants with necrotizing enterocolitis.
To investigate the value of fecal calprotectin in diagnosis and predicting severity of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. ⋯ Fecal calprotectin increases in infants with NEC and serial measurements may be useful as a noninvasive prognostic marker for progression of disease.
