Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Electronic rectal temperature measurement. A clinical trial].
Rectal measurement of body temperature with an electronic device (Ivac) was compared to measurement with mercury thermometers in 157 adult patients on a medical ward. The electronic thermometers were less accurate, giving 3.6 times as many febrile patients. This was reduced to 1.6 after thermometer calibration. It is necessary to make regular calibrations of Ivac thermometers.

[Monitoring of right ventricular ejection fraction with a modified pulmonary artery catheter].
The thermodilution method for measuring right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEFTD) is described. The reproducibility of RVEFTD measurements was determined in 48 critically ill patients who all needed pharmacological inotropic support and mechanical ventilation. A coefficient of variance of 12.6% on RVEFTD determinations was found. In 46 of 48 patients (96%), the catheter did not need repositioning.

[Urine samples for screening of asymptomatic Chlamydia trachomatis infection in young male recruits].
A prevalence rate of asymptomatic Chlamydia trachomatis infection among young Danish male military conscripts of 7.8% in 1989 and of 10.8% in 1992 is presented. A urine sample seems to be as valid a specimen type as a conventional urethral swab for demonstrating presence of Chlamydia trachomatis antigen by either ELISA (Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) or DFM (Direct Fluorescent Microscopy). The method is noninvasive and very suitable for screening young men in order to control urogenital Chlamydia trachomatis infection.
