Case Reports[Pressure build-up in 2 rate-controlled syringe infusion pumps].
The use of rate controlled syringe infusion pumps has spread to departments where the need for accurate infusion exists. The simplicity in using these pumps has led to a false feeling of safety. A case of hazardous use of a syringe infusion pump has been reviewed. ⋯ In the event of occlusion disconnect the infusion system prior to reopening. Don't rely on the occlusion alarm. Use a smooth infusion system.

Case Reports[Treatment of cancer pain with continuous opioid via spinal catheters].
Continuous intrathecal morphine treatment of cancer pain is reviewed on the basis of a literature search. Clinical, pharmacological and technical aspects are described, and the indications and potential complications are discussed. Three case histories illustrate the practical conduct and problems. The authors conclude that continuous intrathecal morphine treatment offers significant therapeutical advantages, when pain relief is not provided by conventional methods.

Case Reports[Continuous subcutaneous morphine to patients with terminal cancer. Analgesia at home].
Since 1992 it has been possible for cancer patients in the county of Southern Jutland to receive terminal care in their own homes. An essential part of this management is effective pain relief; more than 60% of cancer patients have chronic pain. ⋯ The patient may be treated in this latter manner for long periods of time. A case story is described where a cancer patient was treated with continuous subcutaneous morphine in his home for more than 257 days without complications or major side-effects.

Review Historical Article[Staphylococcus aureus--33-year epidemiology in Denmark. From hospital epidemics to endogenous infections?].
Data on 591,292 Staphylococcus aureus strains from Danish patients in the period 1960-1992 have shown that penicillin- and streptomycin-resistant strains of the 52,52A,80,81 phagetype complex dominated around 1960 and were replaced by multiresistant strains of the 83A complex during 1965-1975. Since then the majority of the strains have been resistant to penicillin only, firstly due to an increased occurrence of the 94,96 complex followed by strains of type 95 and group II. ⋯ Hospital outbreaks with S. aureus have in recent years only rarely been detected in Denmark and phagetyping results might indicate that today patients are mainly infected by their own strain. In the future, infection control and surveillance of antibiotic resistance and phagetypes should be continued together with new studies on carriage and foreign body infections.
