[Alcohol consumption and the risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter--secondary publication. A cohort study].
We prospectively examined the association between alcohol consumption and risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter among 47,949 participants (mean age 56 years) in the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health Study. During follow-up (mean 5.7 years) atrial fibrillation or flutter developed in 556 subjects (374 men and 182 women). We found that consumption of alcohol was associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter in men. In women, moderate consumption of alcohol did not seem to be associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter.

Haemoptysis is a common symptom which can have several courses, of which bronchitis, bronchiectasis, broncogenic carcinoma and tuberculosis are the most common. Massive haemoptysis (300 ml in 24 hours) occurs infrequently but has a high mortality rate. Bronchial artery embolisation, embolisation of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations and endoluminal aortic stent graft are interventional treatments which can be lifesaving and in some situations should be the first choice of treatment. Interventional treatments are effective, safe therapeutic procedures which reduce the need for high-risk acute thoracic surgery.

D-dimer measurement is widely accepted as a diagnostic test for pulmonary embolism in cases in which a negative value has a high predictive power. We present two cases of acute thoracic aortic dissection with particularly high D-dimer values and discuss the diagnostic value of D-dimer as an initial test with suspected aortic dissection.

[Neurological late sequelae in twins born after in vitro fertilisation--secondary publication. A national cohort study].
Currently 4% of the Danish national birth cohort is born after in vitro fertilisation techniques and almost 40% of these children are twins. In this register-based national cohort study, twins from assisted conception (n = 3393) had a similar risk of neurological sequelae and cerebral palsy as their naturally conceived peers (n = 10.239) and assisted conceived singletons (n = 5130). Further children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) had the same risk of neurological sequelae as children born after conventional IVF.
