Comparative StudyComparison of PET/CT and PET/MRI hybrid systems using a 68Ga-labelled PSMA ligand for the diagnosis of recurrent prostate cancer: initial experience.
(68)Ga-labelled HBED-CC-PSMA is a highly promising tracer for imaging recurrent prostate cancer (PCa). The intention of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of PET/MRI with this tracer. ⋯ PCa was detected more easily and more accurately with Ga-PSMA PET/MRI than with PET/CT and with lower radiation exposure. Consequently, this new technique could clarify unclear findings on PET/CT. However, scatter correction was challenging when the specific (68)Ga-PSMA ligand was used. Moreover, direct comparison of SUVs from PET/CT and PET/MR needs to be conducted carefully.

11C-choline PET/CT detects the site of relapse in the majority of prostate cancer patients showing biochemical recurrence after EBRT.
The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the usefulness and the detection rate of (11)C-choline PET/CT in a population of patients with prostate cancer (PC), exclusively treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) as primary treatment, who showed biochemical relapse. ⋯ The detection rate of (11)C-choline PET/CT in patients with PC showing biochemical recurrence after EBRT as primary treatment is relatively high (87.8 %). (11)C-Choline PET/CT was able to detect extraprostatic disease in the 62.6 % of patients. Considering this high detection rate, (11)C-choline PET/CT could have clinical usefulness in the management of these PC patients, but this should be confirmed in future studies.

Arterial and fat tissue inflammation are highly correlated: a prospective 18F-FDG PET/CT study.
There is evidence that the link between obesity and cardiovascular disease might relate to inflammation in both fat tissue and the arterial wall. (18)F-FDG uptake on PET is a surrogate marker of vessel wall inflammation. The aim of the study was to measure FDG uptake in both regions using PET and identify links between adipose and arterial inflammation. ⋯ FDG uptake in diverse fat tissue regions was significantly associated with arterial FDG uptake, a reasonable surrogate of inflammation. Increasing body weight significantly predicted the level of fatty inflammation. FDG PET therefore provides imaging evidence of an inflammatory link between fat tissue and the vasculature in patients with cardiovascular disease.

In vivo evaluation of a novel tau imaging tracer for Alzheimer's disease.
Diagnosis of tauopathies such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) still relies on post-mortem examination of the human brain. A non-invasive method of determining brain tau burden in vivo would allow a better understanding of the pathophysiology of tauopathies. The purpose of the study was to evaluate (18)F-THK523 as a potential tau imaging tracer. ⋯ (18)F-THK523 does not bind to Aβ in vivo, while following the known distribution of paired helical filaments (PHF)-tau in the brain. Significantly higher cortical (18)F-THK523 retention in AD patients as well as the association of hippocampal (18)F-THK523 retention with cognitive parameters and hippocampal volume suggests (18)F-THK523 selectively binds to tau in AD patients. Unfortunately, the very high (18)F-THK523 retention in white matter precludes simple visual inspection of the images, preventing its use in research or clinical settings.
