ReviewFDG-PET/CT(A) imaging in large vessel vasculitis and polymyalgia rheumatica: joint procedural recommendation of the EANM, SNMMI, and the PET Interest Group (PIG), and endorsed by the ASNC.
Large vessel vasculitis (LVV) is defined as a disease mainly affecting the large arteries, with two major variants, Takayasu arteritis (TA) and giant cell arteritis (GCA). GCA often coexists with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) in the same patient, since both belong to the same disease spectrum. FDG-PET/CT is a functional imaging technique which is an established tool in oncology, and has also demonstrated a role in the field of inflammatory diseases. ⋯ This work constitutes a joint procedural recommendation on FDG-PET/CT(A) imaging in large vessel vasculitis (LVV) and PMR from the Cardiovascular and Inflammation & Infection Committees of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the Cardiovascular Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), and the PET Interest Group (PIG), and endorsed by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC). The aim of this joint paper is to provide recommendations and statements, based on the available evidence in the literature and consensus of experts in the field, for patient preparation, and FDG-PET/CT(A) acquisition and interpretation for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with suspected or diagnosed LVV and/or PMR. This position paper aims to set an internationally accepted standard for FDG-PET/CT(A) imaging and reporting of LVV and PMR.

Amyloid load but not regional glucose metabolism predicts conversion to Alzheimer's dementia in a memory clinic population.
The value of imaging regional glucose metabolism with [18F]FDG PET for the prediction of progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's dementia (AD) is controversial. The predictive value of imaging with [18F]FDG PET was therefore tested and compared with that of imaging beta-amyloid load with [11C]PIB PET in the same memory clinic population of MCI patients. ⋯ In contrast to [11C]PIB PET, [18F]FDG PET did not predict conversion from MCI to AD in this clinical patient sample. Therefore, amyloid PET should be preferred for individual prediction and patient counselling in clinical practice.

Clinical TrialThe role of interim 18F-FDG PET/CT in prediction of response to ipilimumab treatment in metastatic melanoma.
The aim of the present study was to assess the value of interim 18F-FDG PET/CT performed after the first two cycles of ipilimumab treatment in the prediction of the final clinical response to this type of immunotherapy. ⋯ The application of the recently proposed PERCIMT to interim 18F-FDG PET/CT provides a more sensitive predictor of final clinical response to immunotherapy than the application of the EORTC criteria in patients with metastatic melanoma.

Clinical TrialThree days of high-dose glucocorticoid treatment attenuates large-vessel 18F-FDG uptake in large-vessel giant cell arteritis but with a limited impact on diagnostic accuracy.
To evaluate the in-treatment diagnostic accuracy of FDG PET/CT in large-vessel giant cell arteritis (LV-GCA) by serial scans before and after a short course of high-dose glucocorticoid treatment. ⋯ Within 3 days of high-dose glucocorticoid treatment, FDG PET/CT can diagnose LV-GCA with high sensitivity. This window of opportunity ensures that prompt glucocorticoid treatment can be initiated to avoid debilitating GCA complications with a limited effect on diagnostic accuracy. After 10 days of treatment, FDG PET/CT sensitivity decreases significantly.

Optimal time-point for 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT imaging in assessment of prostate cancer: feasibility of sterile cold-kit tracer preparation?
In this prospective study, we evaluated the optimal time-point for 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT acquisition in the assessment of prostate cancer. We also examined, for the first time the feasibility of tracer production using a PSMA-11 sterile cold-kit in the clinical workflow of PET/CT centres. ⋯ The PSMA-11 sterile cold kit seems to be feasible for use in routine clinical practice, and it has a shorter radionuclide preparation time and is less operator-dependent than the synthesizer-based production method. In addition, early 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT imaging seems to provide a detection rate comparable with that of standard-delay imaging. Furthermore, the shorter preparation time using the 68Ga-PSMA-11 sterile cold kit and promising value of early PET/CT scanning could allow tailoring of imaging protocols which may reduce the costs and improve the time efficiency in PET/CT centres.
