Diagnostic performance of FDG-PET/CT of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder and factors affecting diagnostic yield.
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a serious complication after solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, requiring a timely and accurate diagnosis. In this study, we evaluated the diagnostic performance of FDG-PET/CT in patients with suspected PTLD and examined if lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) load, or timing of FDG-PET/CT relate to detection performance of FDG-PET/CT. ⋯ FDG-PET/CT has a good diagnostic performance in patients suspected of PTLD, with a good inter-observer agreement. Only LDH levels seemed to influence the detection performance of FDG-PET/CT. EBV-DNA load and timing of FDG-PET/CT after transplantation did not affect FDG-PET/CT diagnostic yield.

Functional impact of subthalamotomy by magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound in Parkinson's disease: a hybrid PET/MR study of resting-state brain metabolism.
Subthalamotomy using magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) has become a potential treatment option for the cardinal features of Parkinson's disease (PD). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of MRgFUS-subthalamotomy on brain metabolism using different scale levels. ⋯ MRgFUS-subthalamotomy induced metabolic alterations in distributed nodes of the motor, associative, and limbic circuits. Clinical improvement was associated with reduction in the PDRP expression. This treatment-induced modulation of the metabolic network is likely to mediate the clinical benefit achieved following MRgFUS-subthalamotomy.

Comparison of 18F-FDG PET/MRI, MRI, and 18F-FDG PET/CT for the detection of synchronous cancers and distant metastases in patients with oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
In this prospective study, we sought to compare the clinical utility of fluorodeoxyglucose PET/MRI, MRI, and PET/CT in the detection of synchronous cancers and distant metastases in patients with oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OHSCC). ⋯ In our cohort, PET/MRI showed a significantly higher diagnostic capability than MRI and no significant difference compared with PET/CT for the detection of synchronous cancers or distant metastases in patients with OHSCC.

ReviewNext generation research applications for hybrid PET/MR and PET/CT imaging using deep learning.
Recently there have been significant advances in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) centered around imaging-based applications such as computer vision. In particular, the tremendous power of deep learning algorithms, primarily based on convolutional neural network strategies, is becoming increasingly apparent and has already had direct impact on the fields of radiology and nuclear medicine. While most early applications of computer vision to radiological imaging have focused on classification of images into disease categories, it is also possible to use these methods to improve image quality. Hybrid imaging approaches, such as PET/MRI and PET/CT, are ideal for applying these methods. ⋯ Harnessing the power of these new technologies to extract maximal information from hybrid PET imaging will open up new vistas for both research and clinical applications with associated benefits in patient care.

Novel adversarial semantic structure deep learning for MRI-guided attenuation correction in brain PET/MRI.
Quantitative PET/MR imaging is challenged by the accuracy of synthetic CT (sCT) generation from MR images. Deep learning-based algorithms have recently gained momentum for a number of medical image analysis applications. In this work, a novel sCT generation algorithm based on deep learning adversarial semantic structure (DL-AdvSS) is proposed for MRI-guided attenuation correction in brain PET/MRI. ⋯ The proposed DL-AdvSS approach demonstrated competitive performance with respect to the state-of-the-art atlas-based technique achieving clinically tolerable errors, thus outperforming the commercial segmentation approach used in the clinic.
