Determinants of prostate specific antigen screening test uptake in an urban community in North-Central Nigeria.
Despite the increasing incidence of Prostate cancer, there has not been any focused screening policy or strategy in sub-Saharan Africa including Nigeria. ⋯ Higher incomes and health insurance status impact screening awareness but only income status determines if men subsequently proceed to take the PSA screening test.

This study was conducted to evaluate the insulin pen application knowledge and skills of patients with diabetes. ⋯ This study put into light some failures in the knowledge and skills of patients with diabetes regarding insulin pen use. Nurses should provide patients with diabetes an effective and repetitive training concerning insulin pen use.

The role of hepatic progenitor cells in predicting response to therapy in Egyptian patients with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 4.
Interferon therapy is used as a line of treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) in several areas of the world including Egypt. ⋯ The number of HPCs provides prognostic information in chronic HCV since it is significantly associated with stage of fibrosis. More importantly, it can be used as a marker to predict response of patients with chronic HCV to PEGIFN plus RBV therapy.

Pattern of domestic violence from 2011 to 2015 in Beira, Mozambique.
Violence against women represents a violation of a fundamental human right and is a significant cause of death and disability worldwide. In developing countries, this issue is particularly dramatic and in sub-Saharan Africa were reached 65% of women reporting domestic violence. ⋯ It is crucial to act immediately and with a multi-disciplinary approach in order to fight domestic violence, especially against women due to its dramatic consequences as isolation, inability to work, loss of wages, lack of participation in regular activities and limited ability to care for themselves and their children.

Assessment of maternal referral systems used for a rural Zambian hospital: the development of setting specific protocols for the identification of complications.
In resource-limited countries, it is estimated that up to 75% of maternal deaths are preventable. Maternal referral systems are an effective measure to help prevent these deaths. ⋯ The referral criteria and protocols were updated to include all of the reported complications. We propose this document for others working in resource-limited settings attempting to establish or evaluate a maternal referral systems.
