ReviewA scope review on the global impact of COVID-19 lockdown on adolescents' health.
The implementation of COVID-19 lockdown measures across the globe could affect adolescents' health. ⋯ To curb the negative effects of the COVID-19 lockdown, we recommend parental supervision of adolescents' screen time. ReviewA systemic review of barriers to accessing paediatric eye care services in African countries.
Global estimate reported that 1.4 million children are blind of which three-quarters live in developing countries. Childhood Visual Impairment is a major public health problem globally especially in rural areas of developing countries. ⋯ The main barriers to accessing paediatric eye care services in Africa were affordability, accessibility and availability. There is therefore a need for all relevant stakeholders to play a significant role in addressing barriers to child eye care in African countries.

Model for Teaching the Helping Babies Survive Course Series and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Workshops to Rural Skilled Birth Attendants in Uganda.
Background: Uganda, like much of Sub-Saharan Africa and other underserved regions continues to face the challenge of high neonatal and maternal mortality. The Helping Babies Survive (HBS) course and the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) provide hands on education to train providers in key life-saving interventions. ⋯ The purpose of this implementation research is to gain more insight into the effectiveness of a tailored down 5-day combined HBS-ALSO-UBT course. In this study, we found that a tailored down 5-day combined HBS-ALSO-UBT could be performed with significantly improved self-assessment in diagnosing and managing a wide range of peripartum conditions.

Sense of taste in patients after cochlear implantation-preliminary study.
Taste is the leading sense in how we determine the quality of consumed food. Proper gustatory sensation largely determines the well-being and health of an organism, and this affects their quality of life. ⋯ These findings suggest that people after a cochlear implant may have transient taste disorders. Taste disorder called dysgeusia may be an early complication after the implantation procedure contributing to deterioration of patients quality of life.

COVID-19 in Africa: rethinking the tools to manage future pandemics.
Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains an incurable, progressive pneumonia-like illness characterized by fever, dry cough, fatigue, and headache during its early stages. COVID-19 has ultimately resulted in mortality in at least 2 million people worldwide. Millions of people globally have already been affected by this disease, and the numbers are expected to increase, perhaps until an effective cure or vaccine is identified. ⋯ This statistic might be attributed to the low testing capacity, existing public health awareness and lessons learnt during Ebola epidemic. Nonetheless, the relatively low rate of infection should be an opportunity for Africa to be better prepared to overcome this and future epidemics. In this paper, the authors provide insights into the dynamics and transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) during the first wave of the pandemic; possible explanations into the relatively low rates of infection recorded in Africa; with recommendations for Africa to continue to fight Covid-19; and position itself to effectively manage future pandemics.
