Relationship between plasma homocysteine and blood pressure in hypertensive Northern-Nigerians.
The study sought to determine whether there is any relationship between plasma homocysteine and blood pressure levels in Nigerians with essential hypertension. ⋯ This study showed higher mean plasma homocysteine levels in hypertensives than controls not accounted for by sub-optimal folate levels. Prevalence of plasmid-mediated resistance genes among multidrug-resistant uropathogens in Egypt.
The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) uropathogens has become a public health threat and current knowledge of the genotypic basis of bacterial resistance is essential for selecting appropriate treatment options. ⋯ High levels of resistance to nitrofurans, β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, and fluoroquinolones were detected, and their use as empirical treatment for UTIs has become questionable.

Potential anti-proliferative effects of chemical constituents and hemisynthetic derivatives from Scadoxus pseudocaulus (Amarillydaceae).
Biological significance of Amaryllidaceae is well advocated from the literature. In Cameroon, plants from this family are routinely used for the cure of liver, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. To date, no scientific investigation corresponding to the anti-cancer activity of extracts and isolated compounds of Scadoxus pseudocaulus is available. ⋯ From our results, narciclasine appears to hold the potential of a lead molecule that can be used to bridge the therapeutic gaps in cancer research.

Men achieved therapeutic goals less frequently than did women in terms of glycaemia. Microvascular and macrovascular complications occurred commonly in both sexes.
