Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of Stenotrophomonas species isolated from Mexico.
Stenotrophomonas species are multi-resistant bacteria with ability to cause opportunistic infections. ⋯ Environmental isolates from this study were resistant to SXT which is commonly used for the treatment of S. maltophilia infections. This informs the need for good public hygiene as the environment could be a reservoir of multi-resistant bacteria. It also buttresses the importance of surveillance study in the management of bacterial resistance.

Barriers and facilitators to implementing coronary care networks in South Africa: a qualitative study.
ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is on the rise in sub-Saharan Africa. South Africa consistently fails to deliver timely reperfusion to these patients, possibly due to under-developed coronary care networks (CCN). ⋯ Numerous barriers were highlighted. Healthcare policy-makers should prioritise the development of CCNs that is underpinned by evidence and that is contextualised to each specific region within the South African health care system.

Observational StudyEffects of second-hand smoking on lung functions in athlete and non-athlete school-aged children - observational study.
Second-hand smoking or environmental tobacco smoke is a critical health risk. Children are the most vulnerable to second-hand smoking because of their small bronchial ducts, less developed immunity, and low-physical activity. ⋯ The outcomes of this study suggest beneficial influences of the sports activity on the lung functions, without different influences of the cyclists and football players on the lung functions.

Central line-associated bloodstream infections continue to be one of the most important health problems in ICU. ⋯ 10.83 % developed bacterial blood stream infection 7 days after insertion of central venous catheters, and most of bacterial isolates were Staphylococcus epidermis and were sensitive to Vancomycin and Amikain.
