Letter Case ReportsNivolumab-induced fulminant type 1 diabetes with precipitous fall in C-peptide level.
We describe here a case of nivolumab-induced type 1 diabetes, which developed within 9 days of treatment. The case highlights the importance of frequent monitoring of glucose after initiation of nivolumab treatment.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of the efficacy and safety of insulin degludec/aspart (twice-daily injections), insulin glargine 300 U/mL, and insulin glulisine (basal-bolus therapy).
We compared the efficacy and safety of insulin degludec/aspart (IDegAsp) twice-daily injections with insulin glargine 300 U/mL and insulin glulisine basal-bolus therapy (Gla300/Glu) using insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla300) and insulin glulisine (Glu). ⋯ When compared with the IDegAsp twice-daily injections, Gla300/Glu basal-bolus therapy might achieve more effective glycemic control without hypoglycemic risk.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyMirogabalin for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III study in Asian patients.
This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of mirogabalin, a novel, potent, selective ligand of the α2 δ subunit of voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels, for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). ⋯ Mirogabalin relieved DPNP in a dose-dependent manner; mirogabalin 30 mg/day showed statistically significant pain relief (vs placebo) in Asian DPNP patients. All doses of mirogabalin tested were well tolerated.

Randomized Controlled TrialEmpagliflozin and kidney outcomes in Asian patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease: Results from the EMPA-REG OUTCOME® trial.
In the EMPA-REG OUTCOME® trial, empagliflozin added to standard of care improved clinically relevant kidney outcomes by 39%, slowed progression of chronic kidney disease, and reduced albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease. This exploratory analysis investigated the effects of empagliflozin on the kidneys in Asian patients. ⋯ In Asian patients from the EMPA-REG OUTCOME® trial, empagliflozin improved kidney outcomes, slowed eGFR decline and lowered albuminuria versus placebo, consistent with the overall trial population findings.

Retrospective analysis of medical costs and resource utilization for severe hypoglycemic events in patients with type 2 diabetes in Japan.
The present study aimed to describe hospital utilization and examine actual medical costs for severe hypoglycemic events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Japan. ⋯ Significant medical resources are used for the treatment of severe hypoglycemic events of patients with type 2 diabetes in Japan.
