Depression and posttraumatic stress disorder among women with vulvodynia: evidence from the population-based woman to woman health study.
Psychological disorders may affect the pain experience of women with vulvodynia, but evidence remains limited. The present study aimed to describe the magnitude of the association of depression and posttraumautic stress disorder (PTSD) with the presence of vulvodynia in a nonclinical population from southeastern Michigan. ⋯ The increased prevalence of vulvodynia among those screening positive for depression or PTSD suggests that these disorders may contribute to the likelihood of reporting vulvodynia. Alternatively, vulvodynia, depression, and PTSD may have a common pathophysiological and risk profile. Prospective studies are needed to improve our understanding of the temporal relation between mental health conditions and vulvar pain.

Studies regarding the effects of parity on metabolic syndrome in later life have produced conflicting results. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between parity and the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components in a population of Chinese women. ⋯ Multiparity was associated with increasing risk of metabolic syndrome independent of main covariates in this population of Chinese women. The findings suggested that multiparity may be a risk factor for metabolic syndrome.

Effect of patient navigator program on no-show rates at an academic referral colposcopy clinic.
Patient navigators have been used successfully to guide vulnerable patients through barriers to cancer care and reduce disparities in cancer outcomes. This study evaluated the effect of a patient navigator program on no-show rates at a tertiary care referral colposcopy center and explored factors associated with missed appointments. ⋯ Patient navigator programs at referral centers reduce no-show rates, thus improving patient follow-up, which may reduce disparities in cervical cancer screening and treatment.

Associations of maternal material hardships during childhood and adulthood with prepregnancy weight, gestational weight gain, and postpartum weight retention.
We examined associations of material hardship with prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), gestational weight gain (GWG), and substantial postpartum weight retention (SPPWR; ≥5 kg at 1 year). ⋯ The timing of hardship exposure may differently influence weight before, during, and after pregnancy.

Trends in mammography over time for women with and without chronic disability.
Women with disabilities often receive mammograms at lower rates than do nondisabled women, although this disparity varies by disability type and severity. Given the implementation of disability civil rights laws in the early 1990s, we examined whether disability disparities in mammogram use have diminished over time. ⋯ Little has changed since 1998 in mammogram rates for women with versus without disabilities. Women with certain disabilities continue to experience disparities in mammography testing.
