Our aim was to assess the usefulness of KDIGO 2012 risk classification to predict total and cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). ⋯ KDIGO risk classification can effectively stratify total and cardiovascular mortality risk in DM2 patients.

Characteristics and outcome of patients with solid tumour requiring admission to the intensive care unit. Usefulness of three severity score systems.
To describe the characteristics and the evolution of patients with solid tumours admitted to the ICU and to identify factors associated with hospital mortality and to evaluate three illness severity scores. ⋯ Hospital mortality was associated with the type and severity of acute illness. The three severity scores were useful to assess outcome and accurate in the discrimination, but we did not find a significant difference between them.

Spinal epidural abscess caused by Streptococcus agalactiae in an immunocompetent patient.
Streptococcus agalactiae is an uncommon microorganism that causes spinal epidural abscess (SEA) and usually affects individuals with a predisposing condition or potential source of infection. ⋯ We report a singular case of spinal epidural abscess caused by Streptococcus agalactiae in a healthy patient with no predisposing factors. This case also highlights the importance of an early diagnosis and treatment to obtain a better neurological outcome.
