Haemophilia A and B are congenital bleeding disorders characterized by missing or defective factor VIII or factor IX, respectively. Factor replacement therapy has been the gold standard for prophylaxis and treatment of bleeding complications. However, the inconvenience of regular intravenous administration, along with progression of arthropathy and development of inhibitors has driven the need for alternative treatment options, such as extended half-life products, non-factor coagulation products, such as subcutaneous emicizumab, blocking natural anticoagulants (rebalancing haemostatic agents) and gene therapy, which have been useful to control bleeding or are currently under late-phase clinical investigation.

DNA hydroxymethylation may be induced by oxidative stress in lupus patients, so we investigated the association between DNA hydroxymethylation and demethylation with the antioxidant response. ⋯ Lower hydroxymethylation in patients than in controls was observed. Moreover, higher demethylation and lower hydroxymethylation leads to high TAC levels. DNA hydroxymethylation seems to be related to longer course of the disease.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) detection in patients with embolic stroke of underdetermined source (ESUS) entails a change of medical treatment and a significant decrease in the incidence of new strokes. It is necessary to determine which patients would benefit more from prolonged electrocardiographic monitoring. Our aim was to find electrocardiographic and echocardiographic AF predictors in patients with ESUS. ⋯ Moderate or severe atrial dilation, interatrial advanced block, and the presence of more than 1000 premature atrial beats on 24-hour Holter-ECG behave as AF predictors in patients with ESUS.
