Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end-stage renal disease. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is the recommended glycemic marker to achieve an optimal glycemic control that is essential to prevent comorbidities associated with the disease. However, in patients on haemodialysis (HD) this marker has important limitations, this reason has led us to search alternative markers such as glycosylated albumin (AG), labile fraction of glycosylated hemoglobin (LHbA1c) or glycation indices. ⋯ The glycemic markers evaluated (glucose, AG and LHbA1c), could reflect a possible underestimation of the real glycemic state by HbA1c because of the limitations of this marker in HD patients. The use of alternative markers, knowing their limitations, could improve the monitoring of patients on HD and, therefore, reduce the risk of developing DM2 complications.

In 1933, the Swedish ophthalmologist Hendrik Sjögren was the first to suggest that behind the dryness that several of his patients presented, there could be a systemic disease related to an abnormal immune response. Since then, the term Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) has been used and it has been considered a minor and infrequent disorder compared to other systemic autoimmune diseases (SAD) and, consequently, with little progress both in clinical and therapeutic research. The emergence of new technologies at the end of the 20th century rapidly promoted the development of international projects of great impact and diffusion, which have completely changed this scenario, and in the last 20 years significant progress has been made in understanding the main epidemiological determinants and pathogenic mechanisms to increase the diagnostic accuracy and to design specific and individualized therapeutic strategies. Currently, SjS should be considered one of the most frequent SADs with an undoubtedly systemic phenotype beyond dryness, in which the identification of prognostic factors can allow personalized follow-up and, therefore, early therapeutic interventions that avoid severe, irreversible outcomes.

To compare the 30-day outcome (mortality and/or ICU admission) of patients admitted for moderate-severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia treated with dexamethasone after the Recovery study versus those treated with weight-adjusted methylprednisolone. ⋯ Mortality and admission to the ICU were lower in patients treated with weight-adjusted methylprednisolone compared to those treated with dexamethasone.

The presence of microdeletions in the Y-chromosome azoospermia factor (AZF) region (YCMs) is considered the most frequent genetic cause of male infertility along with Klinefelter syndrome. The objective of this study was to investigate the frequencies and type of YCMs in infertile men in Aragon and to analyze the relationship between sex hormones, sperm count and microdeletions in them. ⋯ YCMs screening is a key test in the diagnostic approach to male infertility. Obtaining an adequate result allows choosing suitable assisted reproduction techniques, preventing unnecessary treatments and the transmission of genetic defects to offspring.
