The force pyramid is a novel visual representation allowing spatial delineation of instrument force application during surgical procedures. In this study, the force pyramid concept is employed to create and quantify dominant hand, nondominant hand, and bimanual force pyramids during resection of virtual reality brain tumors. ⋯ Force pyramids allow delineation of specific tumor regions requiring greater psychomotor ability to resect. This information can focus and improve resident technical skills training.

A Prospective Analysis of Neuromonitoring for Confirmation of Lead Placement in Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation.
Dorsal root ganglion stimulation is a neuromodulation therapy used for chronic neuropathic pain. Typically, patients are awakened intraoperatively to confirm adequate placement. ⋯ This series demonstrates that the proposed neuromonitoring protocol can be used in an asleep patient to assure proper positioning of the dorsal root ganglion electrode in the dorsal foramen by generating somatosensory evoked potential responses in the absence of electromyogram responses.

A Computerized Microelectrode Recording to Magnetic Resonance Imaging Mapping System for Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery.
Accurate electrode placement is critical to the success of deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. Suboptimal targeting may arise from poor initial target localization, frame-based targeting error, or intraoperative brain shift. These uncertainties can make DBS surgery challenging. ⋯ A computer-based algorithm simultaneously utilizing MER and MR information potentially eases electrode localization during STN DBS surgery.
