Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
A randomized phase II trial of gemcitabine plus carboplatin: biweekly versus standard schedules in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
Gemcitabine combined with carboplatin (GC) is a widely used regimen for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but clinical outcome is still hampered by its toxicity. We conducted a randomized phase II study of GC and compared biweekly versus standard schedules in patients with advanced NSCLC with respect to toxicity and outcome. ⋯ A biweekly GC regimen was better tolerated than a standard GC regimen in patients with advanced NSCLC.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Prulifloxacin versus levofloxacin in the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections: a multicentre, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial.
Prulifloxacin is a promising fluoroquinolone antibiotic. A multicentre, double-blind, randomized clinical study was designed to evaluate its efficacy and safety compared to that of levofloxacin for the treatment of respiratory and urinary infections of Chinese patients. ⋯ Prulifloxacin is as effective and well tolerated as levofloxacin in the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Clinical studies on the treatment of cancer cachexia with megestrol acetate plus thalidomide.
The management of cancer-related anorexia/cachexia syndrome (CACS) is a great challenge in clinical practice. To date, practice guidelines for the prevention and treatment of CACS are lacking. The authors conducted a randomized study to confirm the effectiveness and safety of treatment of CACS utilizing megestrol acetate (MA) plus thalidomide. ⋯ A combination regimen of MA and thalidomide is more effective than MA alone in the treatment of CACS.

Ramosetron versus ondansetron in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal side effects: A prospective randomized controlled study.
This study observed and compared the preventive effects of ramosetron and ondansetron on gastrointestinal side effects caused by cisplatin-containing chemotherapy. ⋯ Ramosetron is a long-lasting and safe antiemetic agent.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparative randomized pilot study of azithromycin and doxycycline efficacy and tolerability in the treatment of prostate infection caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum.
A total of 1,442 patients with symptoms of chronic prostatitis were examined over a 4-year period at the Outpatient Department for Urogenital Infections, University Hospital for Infectious Diseases Dr. Fran Mihaljević, Zagreb, Croatia. The inclusion criteria for chronic prostatitis caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum were the presence of clinical symptoms, presence of U. urealyticum in expressed prostatic secretion (EPS) or voided urine collected immediately after prostatic massage (VB(3)), absence of U. urealyticum in urethral swabs and absence of other possible pathogens of chronic prostatitis in EPS or VB(3). ⋯ Five patients treated with doxycycline had nausea. In the group of patients with prostate infection caused by U. urealyticum, the eradication rate was not significantly different with regard to the administered azithromycin (25/32) or doxycycline (23/31). Clinical cure did not significantly differ with regard to the administered azithromycin (22/32) or doxycycline (21/31).
