Temporal muscle thickness predicts mortality in prevalent hemodialysis patients.
Ultrasonographic temporal muscle thickness measurement has recently emerged as a promising method of nutritional assessment in various conditions; hence, we aimed to determine the relationship between temporal muscle thickness and mortality in prevalent hemodialysis patients. ⋯ Ultrasonographic temporal muscle thickness has been found as a significant predictor of mortality in prevalent hemodialysis patients. Temporal muscle thickness could be a novel marker of nutritional status and predictor of mortality; hence, further studies are warranted.

Effect of patellar resurfacing surgery on bleeding in total knee arthroplasty.
Postoperative bleeding is one of the most important factors affecting clinical and functional results in total knee arthroplasty. Therefore, many studies have been conducted on bleeding in arthroplasty patients. However, there are very few reports investigating the effect of patellar surface replacement on bleeding in knee arthroplasty. We, therefore, aimed to investigate the effect of patellar surface replacement on postoperative bleeding. ⋯ Patellar component application in patients who had undergone total knee arthroplasty does not change the blood loss of the patients.

Meta AnalysisUse of cannabidiol in the treatment of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis complex.
The objective of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and short- and long-term tolerability of cannabidiol (CBD), as an adjunct treatment, in children and adults with Dravet syndrome (SD), Lennox-Gataut syndrome (LGS), or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), with inadequate control of seizures. ⋯ This systematic review, with meta-analysis, supports the use of CBD in the treatment of patients with seizures, originated in DS, LGS, and TSC, who are resistant to the common medications, presenting satisfactory benefits in reducing seizures and tolerable toxicity.

Characteristics of patients receiving nutrition care and its associations with prognosis in a tertiary hospital.
The aim of this study was to describe the medical nutritional therapy (MNT) of adult non-critically ill hospitalization patients. ⋯ Oral nutrition supplementation was the more frequent MNT prescribed. The frequency of malnutrition and percentage of prescribed energy and protein were higher in patients receiving PN and EPN compared with those receiving ONS.
