Serum Prealbumin: a potential predictor of Right Ventricular Dysfunction in patients receiving programmed hemodialysis.
Prealbumin has been a reliable marker to predict protein energy malnutrition and hypercatabolic state. In this analysis, we particularly aimed to investigate the potential association between serum prealbumin levels and right ventricular dysfunction in patients receiving programmed hemodialysis. ⋯ This study suggests that low serum prealbumin might serve as a potential predictor of right ventricular dysfunction (and its clinical consequences) in patients receiving programmed hemodialysis.

Orthostatic changes in blood pressure and survival in elderly cardiopaths.
The objective of this study was to analyze the association between orthostatic changes in blood pressure and mortality in elderly cardiopath patients. ⋯ There was a low frequency of orthostatic hypotension and a mild high frequency of orthostatic hypertension when compared with previous studies, and no association was observed with overall mortality or with the survival time of elderly patients with heart disease.

Evaluation of the Rho-kinase gene expression and polymorphisms in adult patients with acute appendicitis: a differential impact of gender.
Acute appendicitis represents one of the most common causes of acute intra-abdominal emergencies worldwide. In this case-control study, we aimed to investigate associations of Rho-kinase gene expression and polymorphisms with acute appendicitis in a Turkish population. We also aimed to study the effects of gender on these parameters. ⋯ Our data imply that Rho-kinase1 (rs35996865) and Rho-kinase2 (rs2230774) gene variants are not risk factors for the development of acute appendicitis in the Turkish population. However, increased mRNA expression of the Rho-kinase1 gene in males indicated that Rho-kinase1 is involved in the pathogenesis of acute appendicitis in a gender-specific way.

Capoeira: hypothesis on health rehabilitation and quality-of-life maintenance.
The aim of this work was to present hypotheses supporting capoeira as an activity aimed at health rehabilitation and maintenance of quality of life. ⋯ An analysis of the impacts of capoeira resulted in hypotheses on the rehabilitation of players' biological health. Although the individuals were evaluated within the pandemic period, their quality of life domains were similar or superior to normative or reference values found by studies from before the pandemic.

When to remove the drainage catheter in patients with percutaneous cholecystostomy?
The treatment for patients with acute calculous cholecystitis who have high surgical risk with percutaneous cholecystostomy instead of surgery is an appropriate alternative choice. The aim of this study was to examine the promising percutaneous cholecystostomy intervention to share our experiences about the duration of catheter that has yet to be determined. ⋯ The rate of recurrence was significantly higher among the patients with catheter for <21 days. We recommend that the duration of catheter should be minimum 21 days in patients undergoing percutaneous cholecystostomy.
