Anticoagulant treatment is associated with decreased mortality in severe coronavirus disease 2019 patients with coagulopathy.
A relatively high mortality of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is worrying, and the application of heparin in COVID-19 has been recommended by some expert consensus because of the risk of disseminated intravascular coagulation and venous thromboembolism. However, its efficacy remains to be validated. ⋯ Anticoagulant therapy mainly with low molecular weight heparin appears to be associated with better prognosis in severe COVID-19 patients meeting SIC criteria or with markedly elevated D-dimer.

Abnormal coagulation parameters are associated with poor prognosis in patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia.
In the recent outbreak of novel coronavirus infection in Wuhan, China, significantly abnormal coagulation parameters in severe novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) cases were a concern. ⋯ The present study shows that abnormal coagulation results, especially markedly elevated D-dimer and FDP are common in deaths with NCP.

Laboratory monitoring during pregnancy and post-partum hemorrhage in women with von Willebrand disease.
Evidence-based guidelines recommend that von Willebrand factor (VWF) levels be obtained in the third trimester of pregnancy to facilitate peripartum planning for women with von Willebrand disease (VWD). ⋯ Third-trimester VWF monitoring was associated with a lower risk of PPH, but testing was performed in only one-third of insured pregnant women with VWD in the United States despite expert recommendations.
