An adult reconstruction (AR) fellowship is designed to provide advanced training for a broad range of primary reconstructive and complex knee revision surgeries. This study aims to identify outcome differences between primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) performed by AR fellowship-trained surgeons and non-AR (NAR) fellowship-trained surgeons. ⋯ Retrospective Cohort Study.

Despite reasonable accuracy with preoperative templating, the search for an optimal planning tool remains an unsolved dilemma. The purpose of the present study was to apply machine learning (ML) using preoperative demographic variables to predict mismatch between templating and final component size in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) cases. ⋯ ML algorithms predicted templating mismatch with good accuracy. External validation is necessary to confirm the performance and reliability of these algorithms. Predicting sizing mismatch is the first step in using ML to aid in the prediction of final TKA component sizes. Further studies to optimize parameters and predictions for the algorithms are ongoing.

Recent studies have examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the practice of total joint arthroplasty. A scoping review of the literature with compiled recommendations is a useful tool for arthroplasty surgeons as they resume their orthopedic practices during the pandemic. ⋯ The COVID-19 pandemic emphasizes the recent trend in arthroplasty toward risk stratification and outpatient surgery, which may result in improved clinical outcomes and significant cost-savings. Furthermore, virtual technologies are a promising area of future focus that may ultimately improve upon previous existing inefficiencies in the education and clinical environments.
