One new type of acupuncture and related techniques (ACNRT) is increasingly used by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients to control their disease and improve their quality of life. However, the efficacy of using ACNRT in combination with western medicine (WM) for this purpose remains unknown. ⋯ This meta-analysis of RA provides reliable evidence in favor of ACNRT plus WM. However, longer term, high-quality, repeatable, multicenter randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes are needed.

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is an established therapeutic option for pediatric end-stage liver disease (PELD). The postoperative respiratory conditions of OLT recipients may be associated with subsequent clinical outcomes including length of stay (LOS) in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). This study aimed to characterize the postoperative respiratory conditions, associated factors, and outcomes after pediatric OLT. ⋯ Pediatric patients of OLT with poor postoperative respiratory conditions including low initial PaO2/FiO2 ratio, extubation over 24 hours or significant pleural effusions have longer LOS in the PICU, and the requirement of massive intraoperative transfusion was a risk factor for both poor postoperative respiratory conditions and prolonged LOS in the PICU.

Endovascular coil embolization is an important method for managing intracranial aneurysms. However, aneurysm coiling may fail or be insufficient in geographically difficult aneurysms. A flow-diverter stent (FDS) is an alternative in these difficult coiling aneurysms. Thus, this study reports the experience and outcome of FDS management of intracranial aneurysms. ⋯ Despite few procedural complications and some pieces of evidence of insufficient aneurismal treatment in a midterm angiographic follow-up, FDS was effective and safe in managing intracranial unruptured aneurysms, particularly in smaller aneurysms, which had better CO than larger ones.

To present the complications of free-flap phalloplasty in three-staged female-to-male transgender surgery. ⋯ In free-flap phalloplasty for female-to-male transgender surgery, utilization of free fibula osteocutaneous flap with vaginal mucosa for a prefabricated urethra resulted in the lowest complication rate. Further comparisons among different procedures of phalloplasty are warranted.

Right ventricular outflow tract obstruction relief is one of the major procedures during the total correction of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Pulmonary insufficiency (PI) is usually inevitable after a transannular incision with a patch repair is performed. Therefore, some surgeons advocate to place a monocusp valve within the transannular patch (TAP) in order to decrease the severity of the PI. However, the monocusp valve seemed not be very effective in some patients who underwent the complete TOF repair. ⋯ Implantation of a monocusp valve during the total TOF correction using a TAP did not bring benefit to improve the immediate postoperative outcomes, especially the duration of the pleural drainage. Further study with a prospective design and a larger number of cases is needed.
