The effect of low-dose ketamine on electroencephalographic spectrum during gynecology surgery under desflurane anesthesia.
The perioperative administration of low-dose ketamine has shown potential in postoperative pain management, opioid sparing, and enhancing pain control. This study aimed to investigate the impact of low-dose ketamine on processed electroencephalography (EEG) signals during anesthesia. ⋯ Low-dose ketamine administration during desflurane anesthesia led to notable changes in EEG patterns and PSi values. These findings provide valuable insights into the impact of ketamine on brain activity, and offer essential information for clinical anesthesiologists.

Course-based intra-articular injection of medical chitosan mitigates excessive deposition of triacylglycerides in the synovial tissue of the knee osteoarthritis.
This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of intra-articular injections of medical chitosan for treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and measure the lipid metabolism profiles of the synovial tissue. ⋯ Intra-articular injection of medical chitosan significantly prolongs the survival period before knee arthroplasty and reduces the deposition of TAGs metabolites.

The effect of statin treatment on glucose homeostasis in prediabetic individuals: A prospective, randomized, controlled trial.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of rosuvastatin and pravastatin on glucose homeostasis and other biomarkers in individuals at high risk of developing diabetes. ⋯ Among prediabetic individuals with IFG, rosuvastatin treatment was associated with increased insulin resistance and decreased insulin sensitivity compared to pravastatin and control groups. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and clinical implications of these findings.

Sugammadex shortens operation time and improves operation turnover efficacy in VATS.
This study compared sugammadex and neostigmine as agents for routine neuromuscular blockade reversal in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) to determine the optimal choice that achieves a shorter operation time and improved turnover efficiency while enhancing postoperative outcomes and ensuring patient safety during thoracic surgery. ⋯ This study's findings suggest that sugammadex may enhance total operating room occupancy time, operation turnover efficacy, and respiratory recovery outcomes in VATS, potentially improving patient care and anesthesia management.

Far infrared stimulation of neiguan acupoints improves heart rate variability and ameliorate fatigue in hemodialysis patients: A randomized trial.
In 2018, 84 615 patients in Taiwan received hemodialysis, of which about 62% to 97% suffered from fatigue. Fatigue caused by hemodialysis may be mental or physical. However, the detailed mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate whether far-infrared stimulation of the Neiguan acupoint (P6) could effectively reduce fatigue and improve heart rate variability (HRV) in hemodialysis patients. ⋯ Far-infrared stimulation of the Neiguan acupoints effectively reduces fatigue and increases autonomic nervous system activity in hemodialysis patients.
