Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfection is common because the two pathogens share their transmission route. Studies have suggested that coinfection is associated with accelerated hepatic fibrosis, increased hepatic decompensation, and hepatocellular carcinoma development. Historically, the sustained virological response (SVR) rates for patients undergoing pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN)-based therapy are poor owing to advanced liver disease, immune dysfunction, and poor medical adherence. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of oral direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in HCV-HIV-coinfected patients. ⋯ A highly effective treatment response and good tolerability were achieved using the oral DAAs for the HCV-HIV-coinfected patient population, which has been considered difficult to treat using IFN-based therapy in the past with urgent unmet medical needs.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues the pandemic spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), over 60 million people confirmed infected and at least 1.8 million dead. One of the most known features of this RNA virus is its easiness to be mutated. In late 2020, almost no region of this SARS-CoV-2 genome can be found completely conserved within the original Wuhan coronavirus. Any information of the SARS-CoV-2 variants emerged through as time being will be evaluated for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of COVID-19. ⋯ The results demonstrate via mutation analysis of Orf10 can be further combined with advanced tools such as molecular simulation, artificial intelligence, and biosensors that can practically revealed for protein interactions and thus to imply the authentic Orf10 function of SARS-CoV-2 in the future.

Low diagnostic efficiency and high metastasis and recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) result in bad survival. A novel diagnostic biomarker is of great importance for the improvement of NPC management. This study aimed to state the biological function and diagnostic values of miR-762 in NPC to provide a novel insight into the detection and therapy of NPC. ⋯ The upregulation of miR-762 in NPC is associated with the disease progression and diagnosis of NPC. miR-762 might be involved in the tumor progression of NPC, which provides a potential therapeutic target for the treatment and management of NPC.

Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is noninvasive but can only be performed intermittently during fluoroscopy. In a prior study, we created a transducer holder device to allow for hemodynamic monitoring in the intensive care unit. The current study is the first instance of the use of a three-dimensional (3D)-printed TTE transducer holder, which is easily customized and personalized to a previous transducer holder at relatively low cost and short production time, to enable continuous TTE monitoring during device closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD) and ventricular septal defect (VSD). ⋯ One migrating VSD occluder and one case of aortic regurgitation after occluder deployment were noted by real-time TTE monitoring during the procedure. Our novel 3D-printed transducer holder can provide transesophageal echocardiography-like real-time imaging during device closure of an ASD and a VSD and may become a new alternative method in ASD and VSD closures. It can also prevent radiation exposure for the intervention team who would otherwise need to perform TTE during live fluoroscopy.

The aim of the present study is to explore the expression level and the clinical significance of miR-194-5p to the children with temporal lobe epilepsy, and investigate its functions in regulating cell behaviors of hippocampal neurons. ⋯ MiR-194-5p is a likely potential biomarker and treatment target of TLE in children. IGF1R might be involved in the regulatory role of miR-194-5p in hippocampus neuron apoptosis.
