Holistic health care considers all aspects of patient care, namely the physical, psychological, spiritual, and social aspects. To assess which patient needs are unmet, a screening questionnaire covering the four aforementioned aspects is required. Therefore, the Sheffield Profile for Assessment and Referral for Care (SPARC), a multidimensional, self-reported questionnaire designed to screen patients regardless of diagnosis, was developed. This study developed a translated and validated traditional Chinese version of the SPARC for patients in Taiwan. ⋯ This study revealed that the SPARC-T is an effective tool for screening Mandarin-speaking patients. Thus, it can be used in hospitals to holistically screen and identify the needs of patients to ensure they can receive appropriate professional support and holistic health care.

Both infliximab (IFX) and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) have shown the efficacy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, there has no head-to-head study on the cost-value of the such treatments on IBD. This study aimed to compare the medical costs using IFX and the new method of FMT (washed microbiota transplantation [WMT]) in the long-term management for IBD under the current health economic condition in China. ⋯ This study demonstrated that WMT could dramatically reduce the cost and duration of hospitalizations in the long-term sustainment in the current Chinese IBD cohort. Compared with IFX, WMT could be a good way for the patients with IBD achieving long-term sustainment and saving medical costs.

Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a significant cause of vision loss and requires appropriate surgical intervention. There are several approaches available, including observation, laser demarcation, pneumatic retinopexy, scleral buckling, and pars plana vitrectomy, which are chosen based on patient condition, surgeon experience, and national health insurance policies. Despite the various options, there is still no consensus on the optimal intervention. ⋯ Additionally, a survey was conducted with six questions to assess treatment patterns in Taiwan, which included input from the expert committee and an open poll at the 2023 Congress of the Taiwan Retina Society. This report provides a comprehensive summary of the current knowledge and expert consensus on the treatment of RRD, discussing the characteristics of current approaches and providing an overview of current treatment patterns in Taiwan. These findings aim to provide ophthalmologists with the best possible treatment for RRD.

Vascular endothelial growth factor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (VEGF-TKIs) are a common cancer treatment. However, the pharmacologic characteristics of VEGF-TKIs may influence cardiovascular risks. The relative risks of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) associated with VEGF-TKIs are poorly understood. ⋯ Higher-potency and lower-selectivity VEGF-TKIs may influence the risks of MACEs, heart failure, and thromboembolism. These findings may facilitate evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.

Effects of Mind-Body Exercise on Body Constitution and Circadian Rhythm in People with Suboptimal Health Status.
Suboptimal health status (SHS) is a dynamic state in which people have not been diagnosed with a disease but tend to develop diseases. People with SHS are more prone to conditions such as cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Suitable interventions in people with SHS can prevent disease development. SHS is correlated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)-based constitutions, including Yang-Xu (yang deficiency), Yin-Xu (yin deficiency), and stasis types. The circadian rhythm is a potential biomarker of health and metabolism. Baduanjin exercise, a kind of mind-body exercise, has been regarded to adjust body constitution and metabolism, but few studies have evaluated the effects of Baduanjin exercise on body constitution and circadian rhythms. Therefore, this randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of Baduanjin exercise on body constitution and circadian rhythms in people with SHS. ⋯ This is the first report of improved health status, modulated body constitution, and increased interdaily stability of the circadian rhythm in participants with SHS who practiced Baduanjin exercise.
