Is N-acetylcysteine effective in treating patients with coronavirus disease 2019? A meta-analysis.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It has brought tremendous challenges to public health and medical systems around the world. The current strategy for drug repurposing has accumulated some evidence on the use of N -acetylcysteine (NAC) in treating patients with COVID-19. However, the evidence remains debated. ⋯ The current evidence reveals NAC is not beneficial for treating patients with COVID- 19 with regard to respiratory outcome, mortality, duration of ICU stay and hospital stay.

Endovascular coil embolization has become an important method in the management of intracranial aneurysm. However, simultaneously coiling multiple intracranial aneurysms (MIAs) in unilateral parent artery in one-stage may fail or insufficient in geographic difficult aneurysm. Flow diverter (FD) has the potential to manage MIAs with nonamenable to coiling. Herein, we report periprocedural morphologic change and outcomes using single FD to manage unruptured MIAs in a parent artery. ⋯ Single FD was feasible to treat MIAs in a parent artery with both effective and safe in one-stage management. Most aneurysms synchronized alteration of morphology in a mid-term follow-up. The procedure was almost the same with FD managing single aneurysm, but longer FD is needed in MIAs.

Using split-thickness skin grafting to treat diabetic foot and leg ulcers is common. Diabetic patients usually exhibit multiple comorbidities and high risks of adverse responses to general and spinal anesthesia. Topical anesthesia can be an alternative to avoid these risks. In this study, the clinical experience of split-thickness skin grafting under topical anesthesia was demonstrated, to evaluate its effectiveness and benefits in diabetic patients. ⋯ Conducting split-thickness skin grafting under topical anesthesia was shown to be a safe and effective means of treating leg and foot wounds in diabetic patients.

Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) is the mainstay of sperm retrieval in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). Some experts believe that a resting period of ≥6 months is required between procedures to ensure better sperm retrieval rates and fewer complications. However, no scientific studies have investigated how long patients should wait before arranging a second mTESE procedure. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate whether good success rates are still achieved when a repeat mTESE procedure is performed within 6 months. ⋯ Sperm retrieval rates for repeat mTESE procedures were consistently high, even when the second procedure was performed within 6 months of the first. Repeat mTESE within 6 months is not a limitation for patients with NOA, if required clinically.

The dynamic Dynesys Stabilization System preserves lumbar mobility at instrumented levels. This study investigated the effect of screw length on screw loosening (SL) after dynamic Dynesys fixation and screw displacement during lumbar motion, using clinical investigation and finite-element (FE) analysis. ⋯ Shorter screws in Dynesys fixation may help avoid dynamic SL. Clinically, 50 mm screws showed the greatest SL and median screw screws demonstrated the least displacement biomechanically.
