Clinical effect of distal radius fracture treated with open reduction and internal plate fixation.
For some specific comminuted unstable intra-articular fracture, the plaster cast can not maintain the alignment of the articular surface effectively. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical effects of distal radius fracture treated with open reduction and internal plate fixation retrospectively. ⋯ The clinical effect of distal radius fracture treated with open reduction and internal plate fixation was relatively satisfactory. Meticulous operation procedure and individual rehabilitation strategy contribute to the wrist joint functional recovery.

Impact of gender and body mass index on surgical outcomes following gastrectomy: an Asia-Pacific perspective.
Although surgeons may expect difficulties in performing gastrectomy on patients with high body mass index (BMI), it is not always the case, especially regarding patient gender. The aim of this study was to evaluate gender as a predictive factor of surgical outcomes related to obesity, as defined by the World Health Organization for the Asia-Pacific region. ⋯ Disparity in surgical outcomes between male and female patients does exist, particularly in patients with high BMI. Gender adjustment of BMI must be performed when predicting surgical outcomes.

Comparison of glycemic variability and glycated hemoglobin as risk factors of coronary artery disease in patients with undiagnosed diabetes.
The role of chronic hyperglycaemia as a coronary artery disease (CAD) risk factor is well-known, and the glycemic variability is still a matter of debate. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of admission glycemic excursion and hemoglobin A(1c) (HbA(1c)) with the presence and severity of CAD in patients with undiagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ Both admission glycemic excursion and chronic hyperglycaemia are associated with the severity of CAD in newly diagnosed DM patients. MAGE displays a significant value in predicting CAD in patients with undiagnosed diabetes even more than HbA(1c).

Association of immunophenotypic characterization of peripheral lymphocytes with different clinical phenotypes of tuberculosis in Chinese Han children.
Very few researchers have studied the changes in peripheral lymphocyte patterns in adult tuberculosis (TB) and even less researches have been conducted in pediatric TB. In this study, we obtained blood samples from 114 Chinese pediatric TB patients and 116 matched controls to study the association of phenotypic subsets of peripheral lymphocytes with different clinical phenotypes of TB. ⋯ This study demonstrates changes in the lymhocyte distribution in children suffering from different clinical phenotypes of TB; such as primary pulmonary TB, and TB meningitis. These patterns may have significance in understanding the pathogenesis and prognostic markers of the disease, and for developing immunomodulatory modalities of therapy.

Roles of preoperative arterial blood gas tests in the surgical treatment of scoliosis with moderate or severe pulmonary dysfunction.
It has been stated that preoperative pulmonary function tests are essential to assess the surgical risk in patients with scoliosis. Arterial blood gas tests have also been used to evaluate pulmonary function before scoliotic surgery. However, few studies have been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the roles of preoperative arterial blood gas tests in the surgical treatment of scoliosis with moderate or severe pulmonary dysfunction. ⋯ No significant correlation between the results of the preoperative arterial blood gas tests and postoperative pulmonary complications existed in scoliotic patients with moderate or severe pulmonary dysfunction. However, the postoperative complications tended to increase with the decrease of partial pressure of arterial oxygen in the arterial blood gas tests.
